A different kind of wedding makeup

Hello makeup-lovers and fellow spooks! :)

I got a mail from one of my readers, Nina, who is getting married soon. Congratulations! :D She asked me to suggest a look that is a little different from the usual brown, beige, gray bridal makeup looks that you always come across when researching the subject. Since she's wearing her red and white Iron fist shoes (aren't that incredibly cool!? :D ), I thought that a red and white look might be suitable. :)

I know that some of you are going to think this is way, way too edgy for a wedding makeup, but this is how I would do a different kind of wedding look. And if you don't like it as a wedding look you can always use it as something else. :)

So here's the look we're going to create! :)

Now that I think about it it's kind of an Asian bridal look with the cat eye and all. If you want to make it less dramatic you can simply skip the cat eye and just smudge some black kohl pencil into your lash line with a sharp brush, smoking it out a bit so that your lashes look fuller.

Step 1. When doing a wedding makeup or a prom makeup look, it is very important to use a good primer before putting on the eyeshadow. You want the makeup to last for a long time and if you're not using a primer you might risk creasing and that the makeup fades.

Step 2. Put the Jumbo pencil Milk by NYX on your lid and blend it out with your finger. Keep it below the crease! Set the pencil with a shimmery white. I've used Ice queen by Makeup Geek.

Step 3. Above and in the crease, apply a burgundy red eyeshadow. I've used Bitten by Makeup Geek. Also apply it on the lower lid. If you want a brighter red color, skip this step!

Step 4. On top of the burgundy eyeshadow apply a brighter red eyeshadow, such as Love+ by Sugarpill. This is only to make the shadow look more red and not so brown.

Step 5. In the outer part of the red shape, on both upper and lower lids, apply a very, very small amount of black, and blend it into the red so that there's a soft gradient.

Step 6. Now, apply a soft black eyeliner pencil to your waterline and in the outer part of your upper lash line.

Step 7. Blend the liner using an angled brush, such as the #266 by M.A.C.. Drag it outwards into a smooth cat eye. Set the pencil with black eyeshadow.

Step 8. Fill in your brows and highlight your brow bone with a matte white eyeshadow. Pop on some mascara and false eyelashes. Something that I (and many other makeup artists) think is important with bridal looks is to use false eyelashes made of real, human hair. Synthetic lashes will only look fake and they tend to reflect on photos. And you sure don't want that! The best lashes to use for weddings are definitely single lashes. Why? Because they look more natural and there will be no risk that they get loose in the inner corner, as strip lashes tend to do. So by using single lashes you don't have to worry about that. :)
Also, using a good eyelash glue is very important. I highly recommend Duo!

Step 9. For the lips I've simply used a wine red lip pencil and some clear lipgloss. (And for the record, I'm not naked on this picture I'm wearing a sleeveless top. :P ).

-----------------------------------------------------

So that's my tutorial for a different kind of wedding makeup. Nina, hope you liked it and if not, please tell me and I'll do another one for you! :) It's an important day for you and I'm happy to help with the makeup if I can!

And I have other news as well! I'm now available on Twitter where I will write some random stuff, makeup related and non-makeup related as well. Follow me if you like! :)

Have a nice day everyone! :)

Tag: The Seven Deadly Beauty Sins

Hello makeup-lovers and fellow spooks! :)

Since I'm pretty bored this week and got nothing special to do I decided to post a tag that has been seen on several beauty blogs and youtube channels this spring. I've wanted to do it earlier but there just hasn't been a good occasion until now. :)

1. GREED: What is your most inexpensive beauty item? What is your most expensive?

The most inexpensive beauty product that I really like and use frequently would probably be the eyelid primer by e.l.f. When buying it from the British site it's about 1.5 GBP (16 SEK). That's what I call inexpensive. :) (Picture taken from here)

As for the most expensive one it's probably the highlighter Touche Éclat by YSL. (Picture taken from here)

2. WRATH: What beauty products do you have a love/hate relationship with? What product has been the hardest to get?

I definitely have a love/hate relationship with dark lipstick. I love, love, LOVE black lipstick but it's so darn hard to keep it looking good for more than a couple of hours. I should probably try a lip-primer underneath but I don't like having too much product on my lips. And yeah, another disadvantage with lipsticks in darker shades is that your guy (or girl) will get it all over their face too. XD

The product that has been hardest to get (I still haven't found it) is a great black nailpolish. You know, one that doesn't chip off after just a couple of days.  And preferably it shouldn't be too pricey either. ;)

3. GLUTTONY: What is your most delicious beauty product?

Oh, that would probably be the body butter Spiced Vanilla by The Body Shop. I just love the vanilla candy scent of it! (Picture taken from here).

Another delicious product that I love (most of all love the scent of) is the lipstick Russian red by M.A.C. It smells heavenly good! (Picture taken from here).

4. SLOTH: What beauty product do you neglect, due to laziness?

Most kinds of hair products, like hair mousse, wax, heat protector and such. I just don't feel it's necessary to use a lot of stuff in my hair all the time, so I usually skip it.

5. PRIDE: What beauty product gives you the most self-confidence?

There are two items on this list. The first one is purple hair-dye. I wouldn't feel like myself without it. :)

Then it would definitely be black eyeliner. :) I like eyeliner pencils best since you can use them on the waterline as well (of course you can use gel liner for this purpose as well, but pencils work better in my opinion). I have two favorite eyeliner pencils.

The first one is Smolder by M.A.C. which is a very soft kohl pencil. (Picture taken from here).

The second one that I like a lot is the Inliner in Indian black by Isadora. It's pretty inexpensive and stays put on the waterline for a long time. (Picture taken from here).

6. LUST: What attributes do you find most attractive in a potential partner?

Without doubt, the most attractive thing is a loving, caring, generous and slightly mysterious personality. It's also important that he has the same, morbid sense of humor as me and that he shares my taste in aesthetics. :)

But, okay, if we're talking about appearance then I like beautiful eyes. Mr. Noire has the most beautiful eyes. ;)

NOTE: The original question was "What attribute do you find most attractive in the opposite sex?", but since I think this question is rather narrow-minded (because not all people are attracted to the opposite sex) I changed it. Hope you don't mind. :)

7. ENVY: What items would you most like to receive as a gift?

Oh boy, my whish-list is so long that it would probably take Santa all night to read it. ;)

But, however, there are some products that I am more curious about than others. :)

The first one is on of these babies. It's a Z PRO palette that would come in handy for all of my Makeup Geek eyeshadow pans. :) (Picture taken from here).

The second one is the Heartbreaker palette by Sugarpill. I could have so much fun with those pretty colors. ^_^ (Picture taken from here).

And the third one is the Skin base foundation in the color 02 by Illamasqua. I'm dying to try this one out! (Picture taken from here).

------------------------------------------------------

So that's all for the Seven Deadly Beauty Sins tag. :) I hope you've enjoyed reading it. If you feel like it, you can answer these questions on your own blog/youtube channel and post a link to that specific post in the comments section below so we all can go to your webpage and read your answers. :) That would be fun!

Have a nice day everyone!

Gold freak

Hello makeup-lovers and fellow spooks!

I got a mail from Illamasqua announcing that they are having a competition where you're supposed to create a look inspired by gold. Since I had planned to do a golden look for a while now I took the opportunity to enter this competition. :)

I really wanted this to be a freakish, creative look, which is something that I associate with Illamasqua. So this is what I came up with.

I really like how the eyebrows turned out. :) It's so fun being creative with your eyebrows! :D As I said in an earlier post I'm thinking about making a post with some creative eyebrow looks. I already have some ideas. In my next post I will have a small eyebrow tutorial included as well. :)

Those eyelashes (I actually don't know what brand they are. Stargazer maybe?) are terrible to put on. They squirm and twist as if they're extremely unwilling to be attached to someone's eyelids. But aren't they worth the effort? :)

Fearless

Hello makeup-lovers and fellow spooks!

So here's the eyemakeup look I did to combine the Makeup Geek lipstick in the color Fearless. Honestly, I intended this to be an everyday look, that would suit most people but somewhere in my makeup madness that intention got lost. Instead, you get a dramatic, gray smokey eye that most people probably wouldn't even wear as party makeup. If you're the kind of person who likes lighter makeup, don't worry! This look is very easy to tone down only using smaller shapes and a little less of the eyeshadow. :)

As for Fearless it is very pretty on its own, but it is - in my gothic opinion, at least - even prettier combined with a black lipliner. Therefore I will provide you both looks on the lips. :)

So here's the finished look! Hope you'll enjoy it!

The look with only Makeup Geek Fearless on the lips. It's such a pretty color!

And here, the look where I first lined the lips with a black eyeliner pencil and then filled them in with Fearless.

Closeup on the eyemakeup. On the waterline I added NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk and then a silver eyeshadow. If you have a silver eyeliner that would probably work better.

Step 1. As always, prime your eyes with your favorite eyelid primer.

Step 2. Apply a soft layer of silver on the lid. I've used Mercury by Makeup Geek.

Step 3. In the outer corner, apply a darker gray, like Galaxy by Makeup Geek or Knight divine by M.A.C. If you want a more toned down look, just apply it in the outer corner and blend it slightly into the crease. I wanted this look to be a little more dramatic so I took it a bit further in towards my nose.

Step 4. Line your upper waterline with waterproof, black gel liner (or eyeliner pencil...). Make sure to smudge it in between your lashes as well; we don't want any skin to show through! :)

Step 5. Go around your eyelashes (both top and bottom) with a black eyeshadow. Blend it out a bit using more of the dark gray you used in Step 3. Draw in your eyebrows but leave a gap at the outer end.

Step 6. Pick out your NYX Jumbo pencil in Milk and put some on your waterline, underneath your brow and in the inner corner of your eyes. Blend out. On the waterline, set the pencil with Mercury (the silver eyeshadow). On the browbone I set it with a matte white, White lies by Makeup Geek, and in the inner corner of the eye I applied a shimmery white, Ice Queen (also by Makeup Geek).

Step 7. Put on mascara and false lashes (if you want to...). In the gap you made in your brow, attach a silver rhinestone using eyelash glue. Paint two dots, using liquid eyeliner, one above and one below the rhinestone.

Step 8. Now it's time to put on the lipstick. I think the second lip-look needs more explanation than the first. Line your lips with a black eyeliner pencil. If you have larger lips you can make a thicker line, but if your lips are thin you should probably stick to a thinner one. Using your a lipbrush, your finger or even a Q-tip, you shall now blend the liner towards the center of the lips, but make sure to leave the center bare. On the center of the lip, apply your lipstick of choice, in this case Fearless, and blend it into the black liner to make sure there are no harsh edges. Done! :D

That's all for this time! I hope you had fun reading this post cause I sure had fun writing it. :D

Have a nice day!

The deathrocker

Hello makeup-lovers and fellow spooks! :)

Here is one of my favorite looks at the moment. And yes, this is my kind of everyday look. ;) I don't know what to say about this look really, except that I love, love, love it!

This look can be made in any color, to match your own hair color. I shaved off the last bits of my eyebrows today. It's easier to do creative things with your eyebrows that way.

Black lipstick of course. ;) I don't understand how I have been able to live so many years without black lipstick. :O

And last but not least, a poser pic to show off my nice outfit (and my and Mr. Noire's beautiful couch).

Next post will probably be another one in the Makeup Geek lipstick series, using the hot pink lipstick Fearless. I don't know what colors I will use for the eyemakeup but gray seems to be a good alternative, so I'm thinking a gray smokey eye or something. It will be way more wearable than this look anyway. :P

I'm also planning a post about eyebrows, maybe showing different kinds of eyebrows that you can do if you've shaved off your natural brows.

Hope to see you soon! Have a nice day!
