Gothic circus

Hello everybody! :)

It seems like the hot and sunny days of early summer makes me long for darkness. Not that I mind the nice weather. I do like to stroll around at the evenings when the sun has almost descended. But my makeup looks are as dark and gothic as ever. :)

This look is inspired by an awesome picture that I found on the internet. Since I'm not too fond of posting other peoples pictures on my blog (due to copyright reasons and stuff like that) I will give you the link:

Isn't that look awesome? I mean, the makeup, the outfit, her hair and everything is just great! :) It's hard not to get inspired! (Especially since she's a purple-head, just like me... :P)

So here is my interpretation of this look:

I love this look! :D I don't know about the pictures though. I've said it before but when the light changes outside I have to change the settings on my camera and right now I'm having problems with that. As a result I get pictures that looks quite strange. The colors I can fix afterwards, but the eyeshadow doesn't look as blended as it does irl and that's a problem that is yet to be solved. I don't know if it has to do with contrast, saturation or something else, but I would really, really like to have the same smooth gradients as it actually is. Any suggestions?

The doll-like Emilie Autum-style mouth is great to combine the eye makeup with. The eye makeup is also doll-like, rounded to its shape and with white eyeliner on the inner rim to open up the eye and make them larger.

I wish that purple would be my natural eye color! ;)

    1. Thank you! :) It's not contacts though, it's just Photoshop. ;)
Yeah, she lives in the same town as I do. I don't know her though.

  2. hm...you did do a gothic look!! great. Purple is my favorite color as well. Listen, tell me the make and model of your camera and I'll ask my boyfriend what you could do. He's a professional photographer and took all the photos you saw on makeupbee.
However, from what I know, you have to adjust the camera settings for the light conditions. Play a little with the white balance settings, those are different from one light setting to another. For example, if the day is sunny, the light will have more red in it, so you will have to compensate by setting the white balance properly, or the colors won't come out right.

    1. Yup, I did! ^^
I use a Canon 450D. I think you're right, it probably is something funky with the white balance. The instructions in the manual for the light settings are quite good but it still doesn't turn out that good. I almost always adjust it in Photoshop afterwards though, to get the colorblanace better.

    2. That's an entry level DSLR. I had it too a couple of years ago, behaved quite nicely. Software alterations are never as good as a good photograph, so you should try a few tricks and tweaks:
      1. Compensate exposure levels. Increase exposure slightly if you are in a darker setting, decrease it if in brighter light.
      2. In the camera color settings, choose a different color profile. In Standard, increase Sharpness to 3, Contrast, Saturation and Color Tone to 1 or 2, depending on the desired result.
      3. Edit the RAW type image and not the JPEG. Set your camera to shoot RAW and edit that. The RAW is not compressed and therefore has all the color information you need for a good color edit if you will still need one. I would suggest for that Lightroom 3 instead of Photoshop. Easier to deal with RAW format.
      4. Again with the white balance. From what I've seen, your pics tend to be a little too blue at times, hence the wrong color hues. You can easily solve that in Lightroom or try to set it around 3200 if Auto doesn't work. Check out a light temperature chart on the net and you'll catch on.
      5. Don't use a direct flash on your face. It will dull the colors. If you have an external flash, try pointing it upwards in a room with white walls or use the flash in broad daylight or sunlight. If you use a flash in sunlight, it will look amazing, trust me. I'll mail you some example photos I've taken to exemplify if you want.
Kisses and keep up the GOTH work!

  4. I agree, it's hard to wear a full face of makeup in the blazing heat.
