Goth on work interview

Hello everybody! :)

First of all I want to say thank you to all your lovely comments! It's so fun to read them and hear your opinions! :D

Yesterday I was attending a work interview. It's a job that will lead me in the right direction on my career path even though it's not makeup related. :)

When going to a work interview expressing all your gothiness might not always be a good idea. But you still want to keep some of your integrity without having employers judging you by your shadowy appearance. So how do you do it?

There might not be a general answer to that question but I'd say that toning down your style and makeup might be a good idea on the interview or when starting a new job.
A natural kind of makeup doesn't necessarily mean using browns and beiges. Here's a suggestion how you can create a very toned down goth-look using gray and black.

The eye-makeup is kind of the classic pinup cat-eye, but I've smudged out the eyeliner a bit to achieve a more smokey effect. If you don't like the pinup-style look, then simply skip winging out the eyeliner in the outer corner. You can also smudge it out more than I have done, but be careful not to take it too high up on the lid, since you want a more natural look. Putting eyeliner along the lash-line will make the lashes look fuller and darker. To me, this is very suitable since my own lashes are rather thin and sparse.

When doing a work look I spend more time on my skin. Since the eyes are so toned down a lot of focus will fall on the skin instead, so I want it to be as flawless as possible. And since pale skin is an important part of my (and many other goth's) style I chose to emphasize this instead of focusing on the eyes. After all, they can't tell me that I'm too pale for a job (unless it's a job as a model for a fake-tan product XD).
A pale face might look a little flat though so I used a cold-toned blush, Shy by e.l.f. on the apples of my cheeks to add some dimension. I like this blush because it doesn't give too much color.

For the lips I just added a little liquid lipstick in the color Cherry tart also by e.l.f. No lipstick at all would work fine as well, and probably be a little more gothic! :)

So here's a tutorial for the eyemakeup! :)

Step 1. Prime your eyelids. Bet you didn't see that one coming, huh? ;)

Step 2. Apply a soft wash of matte white eyeshadow over your lids. If you have darker skin then you can use a darker color, since white might be too harsh.

Step 3. Apply a gray eyeshadow in the outer corner of your lid and in your crease. Blend out well! The shadow I've used is Stealth by Makeup Geek.

Step 4. Using a gel liner and a small brush, line your upper lash-line and waterline. Take another brush and smudge the line out a little.
If you get black gel liner on your waterline, remove it with a Q-tip, since we are putting white there in the next step.

Step 5. Apply a white eyeliner on your waterline before you add black mascara to your top and bottom lashes. Fill in your eyebrows with a dark brown. You can also use black if you like, but to get a more natural result wipe off the brush first and then always start by filling in the tail of your brow.

I hope that was helpful to some of you.

Have a nice day!

Violet ocean

Hello everybody! :D

I hope you've all have had a great weekend and are well rested today! :) I had the most wonderful weekend and because of that I'm starting the week with my mind filled with inspiration.

Yesterday, Mr. Noire took me on a pick-nic date on Gothenburg's most beautiful cemetery. It was great! This is the makeup I wore:

To achieve the beautiful purple color on the lid I applied first a layer of Poison plum (Sugarpill) and on top of that a soft wash of Unicorn (Makeup Geek) which is a lovely blueish purple with tiny silver specks. I also applied Unicorn alone on the waterline.

I didn't put anything on my lips or cheeks, because it was such a hot and sunny day here so any kind of face powder would have looked blotchy. As for the lipstick, my only excuse is being too lazy to put it on. ;)

Cyber goth blues

Hello everybody! :)

The look of today is another gothic one (big surprise, I know) but more of the cyber goth style, combining a bright color with shadowy darkness.
I don't know if blue really is my thing, but I love the M.A.C. Hi Def Cyan Chromagraphic pencil so I just had to make a look with it. I think the Chromagraphic pencils are discontinued (NOOOO!!!) but I'm sure you can find other, bright colorful eyeliner pencils to play with. :) I wish someone would make an acid-green eyeliner pencil. That would have been great!

You could put a black base underneath the black eyeshadow. I didn't though, and that's why the black isn't so intense.

Haha, my hair looks so strange on this picture, melting into the background. :P I'm going to dye it this weekend.

Wouldn't this look be great combined with bright blue and black hair? Maybe cyberlocks or dreads. And maybe with a pair of blue, incredibly long false eyelashes?

And the final question, if you would try this look out what color would you choose to combine with the black? :)

Gothic circus

Hello everybody! :)

It seems like the hot and sunny days of early summer makes me long for darkness. Not that I mind the nice weather. I do like to stroll around at the evenings when the sun has almost descended. But my makeup looks are as dark and gothic as ever. :)

This look is inspired by an awesome picture that I found on the internet. Since I'm not too fond of posting other peoples pictures on my blog (due to copyright reasons and stuff like that) I will give you the link:

http://camuii.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/mg_7964.jpg

Isn't that look awesome? I mean, the makeup, the outfit, her hair and everything is just great! :) It's hard not to get inspired! (Especially since she's a purple-head, just like me... :P)

So here is my interpretation of this look:

I love this look! :D I don't know about the pictures though. I've said it before but when the light changes outside I have to change the settings on my camera and right now I'm having problems with that. As a result I get pictures that looks quite strange. The colors I can fix afterwards, but the eyeshadow doesn't look as blended as it does irl and that's a problem that is yet to be solved. I don't know if it has to do with contrast, saturation or something else, but I would really, really like to have the same smooth gradients as it actually is. Any suggestions?

The doll-like Emilie Autum-style mouth is great to combine the eye makeup with. The eye makeup is also doll-like, rounded to its shape and with white eyeliner on the inner rim to open up the eye and make them larger.

I wish that purple would be my natural eye color! ;)

Taylor Swift inspired prom makeup

Hello everybody! :D

First of all I want to say welcome to my new subscribers! :) And welcome back all you old ones! ;)

As I mentioned the other day (yesterday even, I think) I was going to do a red carpet-style prom look inspired by Taylor Swift. And, well, here it is! :D
I don't like Taylor's music that much but her makeup looks are always very pretty. Her signature seems to be a smokey cat eye and almost always some hint of gold. And those features are perfect for a prom makeup look!

So here's the look:

Haha, I know I don't resemble Taylor Swift even the slightest but I hope you get the idea of the look anyway. :) A soft raspberry red lipstick will be great with this look! (This pic is not edited so the colors are a bit strange...)

Step 1. Prime your eyes with an eyelid primer. I used M.A.C. Studio Finish Concealer this time and guess what? The makeup stayed all day without creasing! :)

Step 2. Apply a black eyeliner pencil as a base in the outer corner of your eye.

Step 3. Smudge it out using your finger or a blending brush.

Step 4. Apply Twilight by Makeup Geek above your crease and blend it out.

Step 5. I didn't want this to be a terribly dark smokey eye so I used a dark gray eyeshadow on top of the eyeliner pencil rather than a black one. The shadow I used was Stealth by Makeup Geek.

Step 6. On the inner part of your eyelid, apply a matte white. Also apply it on your browbone. Then, in the innermost corner of your eye, apply a shimmery nude color. I used Bling by Makeup Geek.

Step 7. Okay, so here's a lot of things at once. First, apply a black gel liner to the upper lashline and waterline. Smudge it out. Second, apply a white eyeliner to the waterline. And at last, apply a soft golden eyeshadow to your lower lashline and in the inner corner of your eye. I used Bleached blonde by Makeup Geek, since it is golden but not too strong.

Step 8. Fill in your eyebrows with a soft brown. Pop on some mascara and finish the look by applying a pair of falsies. The ones I've used are #747S by Red Cherry (at least I think it is them... I'm not sure though, since I tend to mix up their packaging...)

Step 9. Go to your prom and have a lot of fun! :D

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So that was my Taylor Swift inspired red-carpet-style prom look! :) I hope you try it out! If anyone decides to wear any of my looks for prom, please, please, please send me some pictures! ;)

I have no idea what the next look will be so that will have to be a surprise. :)

Have a nice day everyone!

Poisonous pink

Hello everybody! :)

Yesterday I was working as makeup-artist for a fashion show. Wow! It was hectic, lots of gorgeous models and I had tons of fun! :D The clothes that were shown were burlesque and alternative fashion, which is exactly my kind of thing so it was completely awesome. I hadn't got my camera with me though, since I figured I would have my hands full anyway, so I don't have any pictures yet, but I will see if I can borrow some later. :) For now, all you will get are some pics of me and the makeup I wore to the show.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

There was some glitter in the inner corner of my eye, but my camera doesn't like to photograph glitter so hence it didn't show up on the pictures. :P
