Engel

This is a requested look that is inspired by the Rammstein song "Engel" but also highly influenced by the work of this girl, that I have mentioned earlier. Her skills make me feel like an ignorant child. Anyways, I wanted to do a dark, somewhat feathery look (without it looking like that hideous Black Swan makeup...).

Scary is the new awesome!

Scary black eyes goes well with this look, huh? ;)

And so does black lipstick! I had so much fun creating this look and now I'm looking forward to do more creative looks like this one. :)

Step 1. Begin with filling in your eyebrows. They will work as a guide for where to apply the eyeshadows later on. Prime your eyes with your favorite primer.

Step 2. We want the blackest of black eyelid so we apply a black gel liner as a base and buff out the edges with a blending brush. Don't take it too far up, only about half-way up your mobile lid and then blend it upwards into the crease.

Step 3. Set the gel liner with a matte black eyeshadow. Blend it upwards but again, not to high up!

Step 4. To get a more even gradient from black to skin tone we take a matte grey eyeshadow and blend out the the edges of the black.

Step 5. I'm using a matte white as a highlight dragging it down into the black/grey shape to even out the smokey eye even further.

Step 6. Now, picking up some black eyeshadow on an angled brush, start drawing "lines" from the lid and upwards and outwards you can take them up over the eyebrow or end them below, that's totally up to you.

Step 7. Using liquid or gel eyeliner draw some more lines, so that we will have lines in different shades of black.

Step 8. Apply your base and darken your eyebrows.

Step 9. Border your upper lashline with a crisp white eyeliner ending in the classic wing.

Step 10. Line your waterline with a white eyeliner pencil. Apply mascara and false eyelashes and you're done!

End Of An Era

First of all I want to thank you for your suggestions on how to improve my blog! :) Your comments have really given me loads of inspiration! :D

I got a request to do a look inspired by the one that Tarja Turunen wore at her last concert, "End of an era", as the lead vocalist for Nightwish in Hartwall Arena, 2005. Nightwish was for many years my favorite band and the band that lead me into the realm of alternative music (which is strange since I can barely stand metal music today ;D).

Source
Tarja is a beautiful woman with a great taste both when it comes to makeup and clothes. And above this she is an extremely talented singer! :)

This is the result of my efforts to recreate her look:

Want to know how to do this look? :) Keep on reading sweetie!

Step 1. After having primed my lid with Too Faced Shadow Insurance I mapped out the cut crease with black eyeshadow and softly feathered it out upwards. We are going to define the crease further later on.

Step 2. Using a mixture of Makeup Geek Cupcake and Unexpected I made a transition color from the crease and upwards, that will help the black blend better into the skin. Remember to keep the overall shape of your eyeshadow rounded!

Step 3. Now it's time for definition! Apply more black along the creaseline and in the outer corner. Blend. Apply black underneath the eye and feather out softly.

Step 4. With a wet brush apply Goldilux by Sugarpill over your lid and blend it into the black in the outer corner.

Step 5. Apply your base (foundation, concealer, powder) and then fill in your brows. Tarja has fair brows so I used the light taupe Velvet revolver by Too Faced as a brow color. (The brow color barely shows up because of the flash...) Also, "close" the crease by very, very softly extending the creaseline towards the inner corner and marry it with the black eyeshadow underneath the eye. Very Tarja Turunen but very unflattering for those of us with rather narrow set eyes...

Step 6. To finish off the look we need to apply the blackest eyeliner known to man (and woman). I started by lining the upper lash line with black gel liner and smudged it out softly. Then, with a black kohl pencil dipped into the gel liner I filled in my waterline. Tarja doesn't seem to be to big on false lashes so I just applied Lumene True Natural Mascara to my top and bottom lashes.

Step 7. On my lips I used the Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector (the pink one...) by Clarins and on my cheeks a teeny tiny bit of the blush Coy by e.l.f.

Hope you liked this tutorial and if you have any questions on it, just ask! :)

Thanks for reading!

Red Riding Hood

My current obsession is about the show Once Upon a Time. It is amazing! For those of you who doesn't know about it, it is about fairy tale characters who, due to a curse, has been trapped in the little town Storybrooke, Maine. They don't remember anything about their past life in the Enchanted forest, but one day a girl, Emma, comes to town and things start to change.
It is a wonderful, magical story which thrillingly makes you watch episode upon episode. ;) The most interesting element in the series is definitely the love story inspired by Beauty and the Beast, which is so beautiful it makes your heart ache.
As for the actors the most famous one's in this show are the pretty Ginnifer Goodwin (as Snow White) and the brilliant Robert Carlyle (as Rumplestiltskin; who is definitely my favorite character ;) ).

Anyways, there are a lot of great makeup looks in this show as well and the one I like most is the one that Red Riding Hood's Real World-alter-ego, Ruby, wears in one of the episodes in season 1.

Meghan Ory as Ruby/Red riding hood. Isn't she beautiful?

And here's my version of the look! :)

This week I've worn this look every day. The Makeup Geek lipstick in Elegant is probably one of my new favorites (except my trusty ol' black of course... ;) ). I will write a review on it soon because I feel the need to tell you all about what a great lipstick it is.

I really like this look. :)

Since the close-up pictures I took from the first time I wore this look turned out crappy (why does red always look over-saturated on my pics??) I photographed the eyes again, with other light settings. Hence, the black eyebrows on the close-ups. ;)

Make sure that the red is strongest on the outside corner/crease and then softly blend it into the white on the eyelids. Before adding the red, add a medium/light brown in the crease as a transition color. So basically, Step 1. White on the lid; Step 2. Soft brown in the crease; Step 3. Red; Step 4. Eyeliner. Not too hard, right? :)
